Lynwood Unified Students, Staff Return to Refreshed Campuses After Winter Break

From fresh paint and concrete repairs to new landscaping and improved lighting, Lynwood Unified students and staff returned from the three-week Winter Break to refreshed campuses following Districtwide facility improvements focused on fostering safe learning environments.

During the break, District facilities teams completed essential maintenance and upgrades across school sites, including lawn aeration and reseeding and HVAC replacements at several elementary schools; cafeteria interior painting at Lindbergh Elementary School; and restroom painting at Washington Elementary School.

Additional work included concrete and plumbing repairs at Vista High School and Roosevelt and Abbott elementary schools, improved lighting in the girls’ locker room at Hosler Middle School, and the installation of new classroom tack boards at Helen Keller Elementary School. Peg boards were also added to the Lynwood High School engineering and robotics classroom to help the teacher organize tools and instructional displays.

As part of the District’s greening initiative, landscaping improvements were completed at Vista High School and hazardous trees were removed at Mark Twain Elementary School. This work will be followed by the planting of 42 new trees and additional interior plantings, in partnership with SLA, Inc., to create greener, safer schoolyards with increased natural shade. SLA is currently installing irrigation systems to support the new trees.

“These improvements reflect our commitment to providing safe, clean and welcoming learning environments for our students and staff,” Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Gretchen Janson, Ed.D., said. “We are grateful to our facilities team for their hard work to ensure our campuses are ready for the remainder of the school year.”

Additional facilities work is planned across Lynwood Unified campuses in the coming months as the District continues investing in safety, sustainability and high-quality schools.
