A Parent's Perspective

Confidence, Growth & Connection

For Lynwood Unified parent and Early Childhood Education (ECE) secretary Mavel Carias, enrolling her children in the District’s preschool program was more than just an educational step— it was a transformative experience for her family.

“My youngest was born in 2020 during the pandemic. He was not very social and it was hard to have him around a group of people, especially strangers. But I noticed the interactions he was having with staff and students — making friends and wanting to learn. He stopped being anxious and crying in public, so that was a huge plus.”
- Mavel Carias, ECE Parent

Mavel’s story reflects what so many Lynwood families experience: preschool is not just preparation for kindergarten—it’s a foundation for life. With compassionate teachers, a supportive environment, and intentional social-emotional learning, children develop the confidence and curiosity they need to thrive.
